Description: The New Brunswick Road Network (NBRN) v10.2 contains quality geospatial data in an ESRI File Geodatabase format. It is a consolidated Provincial road database, developed by the Government of New Brunswick (GNB) to be available to the public via the internet. The NBRN data model is closely aligned to GeoBase's National Road Network (NRN) model. GeoBase is a federal, provincial and territorial government initiative that is overseen by the Canadian Council on Geomatics (CCOG). It was undertaken to ensure the provision of, and access to, a common, up-to-date and maintained base of quality geospatial data for all of Canada. The NBRN model consists of two linear entities (Road Segment and Ferry Connection Segment) and four point entities (Junction, Blocked Passage, Crossings, and Toll Point). These entities are associated with a series of descriptive attributes such as: First House Number, Last House Number, Street Name Body, Place Name, Functional Road Class, Pavement Status, Number of Lanes, Structure Type, Route Number, Route Name, and Exit Number. Addressing information is distributed in three distinct tables (Address Range, Street Place Name, and Alternate Name) that can be linked to linear entities. NBRN Code Tables are based on the NRN definitions. Additional code values have been added to meet specific New Brunswick needs. The Government of New Brunswick, lead by Service NB (SNB), began implementation of the NBRN in 2012. The Ambulance New Brunswick (ANB) road network was used as the starting point. The NBRN was updated and improved with information from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DTI), the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Department of Justice and Public Safety (DJPS), various municipalities, and aerial imagery. The NBRN has been developed over a series of stages / versions. For more information see the lineage section. Throughout all stages the consolidation of road data from source data providers was used to improve the quality and currency of the NBRN. The Road Segment feature class contains linear representations of NB road portions with uniform characteristics. It can be linked to other tables / feature classes using the following joins: Metadata Table: NID field <-> Road Segment Feature Class: NID field Blocked Passage Feature Class: Road Element NID field <-> Road Segment Feature Class: NID field Crossing Feature Class: Road Element NID field <-> Road Segment Feature Class: NID field Toll Point Feature Class: Road Element NID field <-> Road Segment Feature Class: NID field Address Range Table: NID field <-> Road Segment Feature Class: Address Range NID field Special Note on Speed Limits: Like all data in the NBRN, the speed limit information was compiled and derived from several sources of varying quality and accuracy. Although care has been taken in this process, errors, inaccuracies, and omissions may exist. Speed limit values and locations may not reflect current real world conditions. Existing road signs, legislation, and direction from authorized personnel supersede any speed limit information contained in the NBRN. Road segments with unidentified speed limits have a value of -1 in the 'Speed Restrictions' fields.
